{"id":609,"date":"2025-12-13T09:23:44","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T22:23:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/patmore.net.au\/food\/?p=609"},"modified":"2026-01-19T07:32:45","modified_gmt":"2026-01-18T20:32:45","slug":"slow-cooked-beef-brisket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/patmore.net.au\/food\/2025\/12\/slow-cooked-beef-brisket\/","title":{"rendered":"Slow Cooked Beef Brisket"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As requested by guests, here&#8217;s my beef brisket recipe :-) It goes well with pasta or rice, and a side of vegetables like microwaved green beans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/patmore.net.au\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1000028633-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/patmore.net.au\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1000028633-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-615\" srcset=\"https:\/\/patmore.net.au\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1000028633-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/patmore.net.au\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1000028633-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/patmore.net.au\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1000028633-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/patmore.net.au\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1000028633-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/patmore.net.au\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1000028633-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ingredients (Makes approx 12-15 servings)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2.4kg beef brisket<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons of minced garlic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 cup (250ml) of apple cider vinegar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tablespoon chicken stock (with just enough boiling water to dissolve)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3 cups (750ml) tomato puree (passata)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>6 bay leaves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons fried shallots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 cans of diced tomatoes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons Gravox original gravy (optional)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 onion, finely chopped (optional)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/2 cup of cornflour approx (if needed, see step 6).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol id=\"method\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Preheat oven to 130C (fan forced).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If using onions, put in the microwave to soften for 1 minute.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In a large casserole dish (without a lid), place the brisket in the centre and then all other ingredients except the bay leaves on top. Mix the other ingredients around and on the brisket &#8211; try to cover the brisket as much as possible so it doesn&#8217;t dry out in the next step. Place the six bay leaves on top.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Put the casserole dish in the oven for 2 hours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove casserole dish from the oven. Mix well and cut up the brisket with kitchen scissors into small pieces (about 5cm x 5cm).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn the temperature down to 90C (fan forced) and return the casserole dish to the oven for 12-15 hours. Ensure liquid has reduced so the sauce is reasonably thick &#8211; if not and you need to serve soon, add a small amount of cornflour (approx 1\/2 cup) to thicken and return to oven at 130C for 15 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove the bay leaves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serve with pasta or rice and a side of vegetables like microwaved green beans.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As requested by guests, here&#8217;s my beef brisket recipe :-) It goes well with pasta or rice, and a side of vegetables like microwaved green beans.
